Guruvayur Ekadasi

Ekadasi in the Malayalam month of Vrischika is celebrated at the Guruvayur Sreekrishna Temple.

In 2013 it falls on 13 december.
Large crowds were seen at the temple on the eve of the observance of Ekadasi (the eleventh day of every lunar fortnight).
.Pancha Ratna compositions were rendered.

 

‘Kazcha Seeveli' will be performed.
The Devaswom will perform ‘Udayasthamana Pooja' (dawn-to-dusk pooja).
After the Seeveli, a procession will be taken to the Parthasarathi temple. After a pooja at night, ‘Ekadasi Vilakku' will be held.

Geetopadesam Day will also be observed the same day.

A ceremonial feast (Prasada Oottu) will be served at the temple. Every year, about 20,000 devotees partake of the feast.
‘Dwadasi Samaparnam' and ‘Thrayadasi Oottu' will also be held..

Vrischika Ekadasi, which falls in the Mandala season, is celebrated with great fervour in Guruvayur. ‘Ekadasi Vilakku' rites begin a month before the Ekadasi day.

In 2013 Narayaneeyam Day ( Narayaneeyam is a Sanskrit text written by Melpathur Narayana Bhattathiri that condenses the Bhagavatha Purana into 1,036 verses. ) is on 13th december.

The Narayaneeyam will be recited from 5 a.m
