neelakurinji (Strobilanthes kunthiana) plants spread their purple floral carpet over Rajamala and adjoining areas of Eravikulam National Park. This plant flowers only once in 12 years.About 56 Strobilanthus species seen in the Western Ghats, 23 are found in the park. Next flowering season will be in 2018.

Kurunji trek: A nearly 3-km-long trekking programme organised by the Muthuvan tribe members from Parappayarkudy . Visitors will get first hand knowledge about the park and kurinji species from them. The programme begins at 8 a.m. and winds up by 3 p.m.

An adult will be charged Rs.150 for trekking.Foreign visitors will be charged Rs. 340 per person.
