Kanayi Kunhiraman
master sculptor created his first piece of public art, Yakshi , at Malampuzha in 1969
He was the Chairman of the Kerala Lalithakala Akademi in 1978 and 2001 and was a member of the Central Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi.

Kanayi created the Fertility and Moorthi sculptures on the FACT premises at Ambalamedu, under the direction of M.K.K. Nair, General Manager and Managing Director of the company, in 1971

In 1973, he created Mukkola Perumal in front of the Greater Cochin Development Authority headquarters in Ernakulam.

Among his major works are the large-size Shangu , Madanthara , Amma , Embrace , Embryo , Sunset , Lotus , Infinity and Nandi created in the Veli tourism village in Thiruvanathapuram in 1986

His Sagarakanyaka (1992) and relaxation sculpture (1995) on the Shangumughom beach in Thiruvanathapuram are major attraction





Kanayi recalled his major works such as those at Payyambalam in Kannur; Kumaranasan Smarakom at Thonnakkal, Thiruvananthapuram; an environmental sculpture at Panjab University, Patiala (1980); Nandi at Malampuzha (1969); a fountain sculpture at Hotel Karthika, Kollam (1974); and an environmental sculpture at the Chithrakala Parishad Art Complex, Bangalore.

He had made full-size bronze statues of famous people like Netaji Subas Chandra Bose, Pattom Thanu Pillai, E.M.S. Namboodiripad and Sree Chithira Tirunal in Thiruvanathapuram; Mannathu Padmanabhan at Vaikom; and Sree Narayana Guru in Ernakulam

Aksharamata sculpture at the 132-year-old Kottayam Public Library. This 60-foot-high work would be the tallest he had done.
